Dependent Tuition Assistance - Rowe Fund
Tuition assistance for children claimed as dependents (for income tax purposes) is available to employees of the College.
Eligibility: Employees must have 5 years of continuous full-time employment
Benefit: 10% of the Bates College Annual Cost
Limitations: Assistance is limited to 4 years at fully accredited institutions that grant baccalaureate and bachelor’s degrees.

Employee Education Assistance
Bates College supports lifelong learning and encourages employees to pursue educational opportunities that support both professional growth and the mission of the College. The Educational Assistance Program offers several options depending on the type of course and an employee’s length of service, with an annual maximum benefit of $5,250 per calendar year (per IRS guidelines).
Please note: Employees on a Performance Improvement Plan are not eligible to participate unless the education is part of the agreed-upon plan.
Program Options
Job-Specific Courses (Off Campus) – Courses required for your current role or taken at your supervisor’s request.
Eligibility: Regular employees, immediately
Coverage: 100% of tuition covered and paid directly by Human Resources
Key Details
- Approval is required before the course begins
- Courses should be taken outside work hours when possible
- Paid time may be allowed if a required course occurs during work hours
- Proof of completion is required (grade of C or better, if applicable)
- Repayment is required if completion requirements are not met
Courses at Bates College – Courses taken at Bates at the employee’s initiative.
Eligibility: Regular employees after one year of employment
Coverage
- One course per semester covered for full-time employees
- Benefit is prorated for part-time employees
- Maximum of six courses total under special student status

- Courses should be taken outside work hours or arranged with supervisor approval

- Benefit is prorated for part-time employees

Computer Purchase
Purchase personal computers and equipment with a 24-month payment plan offered through the College.
Eligibility: Employees with 6+ months of continuous service.
